Camp Cheerful is like a second home to Jenna, who started attending day camp when she was only seven years old. As a child, she looked forward to day camp every summer. Now 22 years old, Jenna continues to enjoy all that camp has offered throughout the years. Today, her favorite activities are singing around the campfire, floating in the pool, dancing to music and karaoke night. When Jenna attends overnight camp, her parents know she is safe and having a wonderful time. Her mother said, “it is like a sleepover that typical children enjoy. She gets to be with her best friends.”
Seeing an opportunity to offer meaningful activities in our unique outdoor setting for adults with disabilities at Camp Cheerful, the River Rock Adult Day program was developed. Now Jenna, and other adults have their own year-round program where they can take pride in learning such things as gardening, cooking and housekeeping skills, horsemanship activities, nature education, exercise and sports with caring staff and friends. Jenna is also proud to be learning ways to be more independent.
